Storefront Translation

Learn how to configure multi-language translations and automatic locale switching for your Request for Quote storefront experience.

Customize all customer-facing text, button labels, modal form fields, and notification banners for Request for Quote (RFQ) across multiple storefront languages.

With the Auto-Switch Quote Text by Customer Locale engine, your quote submission flow automatically adapts to the buyer’s language based on their active market context in Shopify, ensuring a seamless localized experience without language friction.

When selling across international markets (such as bilingual regions or pan-European B2B commerce), having storefront navigation in the buyer’s native language while the quote submission form abruptly displays in English introduces friction and lowers conversion rates.

The RFQ Storefront Translation settings provide:

  • Per-Locale Translation Management: Define custom translations independently for each language activated in your store’s Shopify Markets.
  • Automatic Locale Detection: The storefront component detects the visitor’s current language preference and automatically displays the matching localized text.
  • Intelligent Language Fallback: If a specific translation field or an entire locale is left blank, the system automatically falls back to your store’s default primary language without breaking layouts or displaying empty labels.
  • Instant Live Preview: Test and review button labels, modal forms, eligibility notices, and toasts directly in your admin preview before saving.
  1. A customer visits your store in a language, for example German (/de).
  2. If you translated the quote texts into German, the quote button, form and messages show in German.
  3. If not, or only partly, the missing texts fall back to your store’s default language (for example English).

To access the RFQ translation management console:

  1. In Shopify Admin, open BSS B2B Quote.
  2. In the navigation menu, select Translations > Request For Quote.
  3. At the top of the editor, use the Locale Selector dropdown to select the target language you wish to customize.

[!NOTE] Plan Requirement: Multi-language storefront translation for Request for Quote is available on the Growth plan and above.

4. Step-by-Step: Adding a New Language Translation

Section titled “4. Step-by-Step: Adding a New Language Translation”

Follow these 4 steps to configure a localized quote flow for an additional market:

  1. Navigate to Translations > Request For Quote.
  2. Click the Locale selector at the top-left of the page.
  3. Choose the locale you wish to translate (e.g. de for German or fr for French).
    • Note: Only locales currently published in your Shopify Markets settings will appear in this list.
  1. Click through the 5 translation tabs (Quote Button, Toast Notification, Eligibility, Quote Form, Quote History).
  2. Enter your localized copy into the respective text fields.
  3. You do not need to fill out every field at once: any empty fields will automatically inherit your store’s primary language.
  • As you type into any text field, inspect the Interactive Live Preview on the right side of the screen.
  • Check button widths, text wrapping, and notification formatting to ensure your copy fits your storefront theme cleanly.
  1. Click Save in the top-right corner.
  2. Visit your live storefront, switch your currency/country picker to the localized market, and verify that the quote button, modal form, and notifications render in the target language.

5. Real-World Scenario: Multi-Market European Store

Section titled “5. Real-World Scenario: Multi-Market European Store”

Store Context: A wholesale distributor based in the Netherlands sells across the DACH region and France:

  • Primary Language: English (en)
  • Target Markets: Germany (de) and France (fr)

Configuration:

  1. In Translations > Request For Quote, the merchant selects de and translates key CTAs:
    • Quote Button Content: Angebot anfordern
    • Modal Header Title: Unverbindliches Angebot anfragen
    • Submit Button: Anfrage absenden
  2. Next, the merchant selects fr and configures French copy:
    • Quote Button Content: Demander un devis
    • Modal Header Title: Demande de devis professionnel
    • Submit Button: Envoyer la demande
  3. A buyer from Italy visits the store (it). Because Italian copy has not yet been translated, the system seamlessly displays the default English (Add to quote), preventing broken strings or missing buttons.
